I have a question regarding tagging up. Had a situation in a 13A game where there was a runner on 1st, 1 out. The runner attempted to steal 2nd. The pitcher had no idea the runner was going. The runner actually made it to 2nd base before the pitcher threw the pitch. There was then a fly ball to the outfield, which was caught. My question: does the runner need to tag up at 2nd base or 1st base? He was actually standing just past 2nd base when the pitch was delivered. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Thanks!!!
Answer is tag up at second. The runner needs to tag up at the base occupied at time of pitch, which would be second base in this situation.
