Larry Gallagher Memorial Scholarship

We will be remembering and honoring Larry Gallagher for a lifetime of service to Baseball and Umpiring. On Aug 4, one of our youth Umpires will be awarded the Larry Gallagher Memorial Scholarship.

Larry played on baseball teams in his youth, high school, college and men's amateur  teams into his 30's.

He started umpiring baseball at age 14 and continued to age 79.  He umpired the Twins in 1979 when the umpires were on Strike.  To become a better umpire, at age 62 he went to Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring.  He was the umpire to call when there was a question about a play, because he knew the rules.

Larry worked for the Minnesota State High School League as

a Regional Coordinator, Rules Interpreter and Clinician.

The umpire chosen for this scholarship will exemplify Larry's professionalism, rules knowledge, and dedication to the game.

Donations are now being accepted for this scholarship. To apply, please send an email to mnumpires@gmail.com
